Sierra Leone News: APC MP Supports Flood Victims

Member of Parliament (MP) for Constituency 117, West Area Urban under the ticket of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party, Hon. Hajaratu Faith Samura has donated 30 bags of cement, four trips of sand and a cash of Le1,500,000 to victims of the August 2, 2019 flooding in her constituency,.

The donation was geared towards alleviating the plights of flood victims, as a result of heavy downpour that left at least six people dead and hundreds homeless in Freetown.

Hon. Hajaratu Samura did the donation in collaboration with Councillor Abu Bakarr Kamara of Ward 410 and Councillor Zainab Conteh of Ward 412.

The APC MP consoled the victims on their predicaments, adding that they were not expecting such at a time when the economy is going through challenging period. She said at a time like this, there is need for members of her constituency to accommodate each other and work as one for the benefit of the entire constituency and Sierra Leone.

“I am in sympathy with you people. I share your plights, but I cannot rebuild your houses. I hope the items will be of great help to you,” Hon. Samura said.

On behalf of his subjects, the Mende Tribal Head, Joseph N’yallay pointed out that, one thing he likes about the APC MP is that she does not discriminate on party line when supporting members of her constituency. He expressed profound gratitude to the MP for the timely donation.

Councillor Zainab Conteh of Ward 412 said when the flooding occurred, herself, the MP and a disaster team from Office of the National Security (ONS) took an assessment tour of the community to ascertain the magnitude of the destruction.

She said that, the MP on that fateful day immediately donated six bags of rice to the victims and the sum of Le50,000 to each affected household.
