By Desmond Tunde Coker
The Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports Dr. Kenneth Brima on Tuesday August 20, 2019, pledged the government’s continued support to Leone Stars and the technical team.
The sports director made this commend during the unveiling of the Leone Stars Head Coach Sellas Tetteh and his backroom staff at the Football Academy in Freetown.
Dr. Brima added that the government will support the Ghanaian coach and his backroom staff, so that the country will qualify to the 2021 AFCON Finals and the 2022 Qatar World Cup. “Government is ready to support a successful Leone Stars,” he added.
“We are calling on the Coach and his backroom staff to qualify us to the respective competitions. Government is ready to support, as they have poured the highest amount of money into football since they came into office,” he said.
“We want the coach and his team to be happy, so we’ll give them all the support”
This comes after the Ministry of Sports earlier rejected Sellas Tetteh as Leone Stars coach, describing the process leading to his appointment which did not come to a “logical conclusion an incomplete”.
Speaking on behalf of the President of Sierra Leone Football Association, Harold Nat-Johnson, Chairman of the Technical Committee, said: “Today we are proud to have African most successful coach, and we are also proud to have gone through recruitment process and the best have been selected.”
“As an FA, we allowed the coach to get his backroom staff and to have a free hand in discharging of his duties. In fact, the coach is not a stranger to Sierra Leone Football,” he said. “We are hoping that you will qualify us to the Nations Cup this time around,” he said.
Coach Sellas Tetteh said that he is touch to see the passion from the Journalists and every Sierra Leonean. “With my colleague, we hope to do our best,” he said. He said that their assignment is not an easy one because every challenge has a target and we should be caution and patriot in doing that,” he said.
Musa Kallon, one of the assistant coach, said that he is very proud to be part of the senior team, as he onetime has the opportunity to serve as head coach of the U-17 team some years ago. “I was expecting to be the head coach but such is life. I will work with my boss,” he said.
