The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday detained Dr Richard Konteh, former Minister of Trade and Chief of Staff, Office of the President, under the regime of former President Ernest Bai Koroma.

According to trusted sources at the ACC, the former minister was arrested in connection with a Japanese project while serving as Minister of Trade, and a timber issue for which he was dismissed and prosecuted by the previous government.

His arrest came few days after he criticized the government and police over intimation of APC supporters and the handling of violent incidents which occurred on 24 August in one of the polling centres in Angola Town, Constituency 110, Western Area Rural District, during the bye-elections. The violent incidents prompted the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to cancel the bye-election. ‘

Dr Konteh was invited by the ACC together with the former permanent secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Sana Marah. Mr Marah was released on bail, while Dr Conteh was denied bail, according to sources at the Commission
