By Abu Bakarr Munu
A 25-year-old Lamin Bah, a final year student of the University of Makeni (UNIMAK), was killed after being allegedly hit with a stone on the head by his in-law Alhaji Jalloh in Kabala.
The incident occurred following a brawl between his uncle Yayah Jalloh and his two in-laws in Balibaya community in the outskirt of Kabala Town, police said on Tuesday.
The Line Manager of the Family Support Unit (FSU), Kabala Police Division, Alhassan Foday Kamara said in an interview that on August 20, 2019, at about 17:00pm, they received a report of wounding from one Yayah Jalloh, an uncle to the deceased, in connection to a scuffle between him and his two in-laws Alhaji and Sajor Jalloh, who are brothers to his wife Mrs. Fatmata Jalloh.
The FSU Line Manager explained that, Yayaj had earlier complained of assault and wounding against his two in-laws, who he claimed physically attacked him in his house after he stopped his wife from entering their house because she had left the home for hours without seeking his permission.
Inspector Kamara explained that, the jealous husband said that his wife is in the habit of going out unceremoniously for hours which annoyed him, and had reported his wife to his father-in-law on several occasions for such an act.
The Line Manager said the husband alleged that, on that fateful day, his father-in-law Pa Amadu Jalloh allegedly ordered his two sons, Alhaji and Sajor Jalloh to beat him up because he was preventing their sister Mrs. Fatmata Jalloh from gaining access to the house.
He said that the husband claimed that his nephew Lamin Bah (now deceased) got wind of the incident and got to the scene. He said that the deceased suffered injuries from stones on the head that left him bleeding profusely; and was late rushed to a hospital where he passed away the following day.
The husband also claimed that during the scuffle, his younger sister Abie Jalloh suffered injuries which left her with 12 stitches.
The FSU Line Manager said that the matter is being investigated by the homicide unit of the Kabala Police Division.
