Sierra Leone News: Police Inspector in Custody over 779kg of Cannabis

The security personnel at the Mangebureh Police Checkpoint along the Kambia/Pamalap highway has on Friday September 6, 2019, arrested a senior police officer attached to the Operational Support Division (OSD), Inspector Abu Bakarr Kargbo and a Guinean national Ibrahim Sow who were allegedly in possession of 779 kilogram of cannabis, the Regional Police Commander, North/West, Ansumana J. Bonor said on Friday.

The regional commander said the 779 kilograms of cannabis has been confiscated by the police while that matter has been transferred to the Port Loko Police Division.

The Guinean national was in control of the vehicle which was impounded at the Mangebureh police checkpoint.

The Head of Police Media and Public Relations Unit, Superintendent Brima Kamara told this medium that both suspects are in custody at the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Freetown for further investigation.

According to sources close to the Kambia police, Inspector Kargbo and the Guinean national allegedly arrived during the odd hours with the said vehicle full with neatly packed bundles rapped with sellotape including other contraband drugs like tramadol.

According to report, when the driver arrived at the checkpoint, he was so confident of crossing the checkpoint, but security personnel at the checkpoint insisted on inspecting the fully loaded vehicle. According to police intelligence, the vehicle was parked in front of the resident of Inspector Kargbo few hours before it approached the checkpoint.
