The Sierra Leone Boxing Association is in intensive preparation ahead of All African Games schedule to take place in Egypt this month.

The Secretary General of Sierra Leone Boxing Association, Alhaji Komba told Premier News that, the athletes are working very hard to see how best they can come with medals this time around during the All African Games in Egypt. He said that the Association had a forging coach for the past three months who have been working with the boys in different techniques.

He said that to get these athletes in proper readiness ahead the games, the Association in April organized an international tournament with Liberia which saw one of Sierra Leone finest female boxer based in Canada Deedra Chestnut fight for the first time in her mother’s land Sierra Leone.

“We are in better shape ahead of the All African Games now taking into cognizance how long we have been training through the help of a Cuba coach who has been helping tremendously.”

This executive is ready to change the face of boxing in Sierra Leone like it used to be before.

He said that the names of five athletes have been submitted to the National Olympic Committee (NOC), “and we are waiting for their confirmation”. He assured Sierra Leoneans that boxing will do well this time around based on how they have prepared.

SLBA Secretary General Alhaji Komba said that the event in April is purposely organized to showcase to the general public the new dynamics in the sport, adding that the boxers have gone through thorough training from international Cuban trainers.

“Let me thank the African Elite Athletes for giving us a facelift and support towards the renovation of our boxing gym,” Alhaji Komba said, adding that the renovation of gym has been a big boost to the boxers.
