Sierra Leone News: Police Confiscate Consignment of FHC Drugs

A huge consignment of assorted medical drugs believed to be Free Healthcare Drugs meant for the Serabu Catholic Hospital in the southern region have been confiscated at the Yengema Town in the Bo district over the weekend, police said on Monday.
The police media officer, southern regional, , Inspector Foday Musa said a vehicle driven by one Joseph Luseni was intercepted at Yengema Town during the odd hours of the night carrying the medical consignment believed to be Free Health Care (FHC) drugs meant for the Serabu Catholic Hospital, as indicated in some of the boxes containing drugs.
Inspector Musa said the driver in control of the vehicle and ‘apprentice’ are in custody helping with the investigation.
He said that during preliminary investigation, the authorities at the Serabu Hospital said there was no breakage in the hospital, but acknowledged that the drugs were meant for the hospital based on the inscriptions in some of the boxes containing the drugs.
The driver of the impounded vehicle, Joseph Luseni, told police that the drugs were allegedly given to him by one nursing sister Bintu Diana Rogers who is working at the hospital. The nurse is on the run, according to the police.
According to Inspector Musa, recently another vehicle loaded with bundles of insecticides treated bed nets was held at the Tikonko Police checkpoint in Bo. The driver abandoned the vehicle and took to his heels. Police in Bo are looking for the owner of the said vehicle.
