Sierra Leone News: Three Arraigned for Defamation

The presiding magistrate at Freetown Court №2, Marke Ngegba has on Tuesday October 15, 2019, admitted three accused persons to bail.

The three accused persons, Sei Sesay, Osman Kargbo and Isata Kargbo are charged with the offences of defamatory libel, abusive language, trespass and assault contrary to law.

Particulars of Offence stated that, the accused Sei Sesay, Osman Kargbo and Isata Kargbo on Sunday September 22, 2019, at №28 Congo Bridge, Tengbeh Town, Freetown, maliciously publish a false statement about the Complainant Samuel Fornah knowing same to be false.

Also, accused at the same place and on the same date did make use of abusive language to the complainant and unlawfully entered into the compound of the complainant.

After the charges were read to the accused they pleaded not guilty to the allegations levied against them.

Defense Counsel, S.A Conteh Esq. made an application for bail on behalf of his clients, noting that they are not flight risk and have a fixed abode.

He said they will not interfere with the prosecution witnesses, and vouch for same conduct in keeping the peace if granted bail.

Magistrate Ngegba in his discretion granted the accused persons bail in the sum of Le40 million, one surety each in like sum and the surety must be employed by a reputable institution.

The bail should be approved by the deputy Acting Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to Wednesday October 23, 2019, for further hearing.
