Sierra Leone Simmers Make Personal Best in FINA World Championship

Three Sierra Leone simmers in the just concluded FINA World Championship in Gwangju, South Korea have qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan after all three swimmers put up outstanding performances in their different strokes at the 18th FINA World Championships.

According to the General Secretary of the Sierra Leone Swimming Diving and Waterpolo Association Mohamed Turay, the athletes put up brilliant performances as three National Records were broken and three national records were set.

He stated that Joshua J. J. Wyse which happens to be one of Sierra Leone finest swimmer, swum in both Butterfly and Freestyle 50m events (M) respectively with the following times; Butterfly — 29.85 sections with an improving time on his Personal Best from Algeria where he swum 29.97 sections. Freestyle — 27.17 sections improving on his time of 27.79 section s swum in Algeria, last month.

Tity Dumbuya who’s aim is to take the place of Bunturabie Jalloh, swum in both the Butterfly and Freestyle 50m events respectively with the following times; Butterfly — 37.90 secs improving on her time of 39.67 secs in Freetown (New National Record) in April this year. Freestyle — 34.85 secs improving on her time of 38.12 secs in Freetown in April this year. (New National Record)

Ali Kamara swum in both the Breast and Back strokes 50m, this according to Mr. Turay said that this will help Sierra Leone in the future in both Africa and European competitions. He added that the technical team will continue working hard to improve them and prepare them for local and international assignment.
